Because I have started back to work (finally) and the increasingly painful physical therapy, my posting will probably be even lighter, so to make up for that, I am throwing open the blog to you, our good readers. Feel free to share your favorite links and comments on the news of the day.

    Nice. A mid-week open line.

It’s been a while, but first and foremost, I’m not sold on the idea of bailouts at all.

If we were a truly free market economy, which we never truly have been, the “greedy” private sector banks would have to deal with the fruits of their labor.

This is basically a plea for education and helpful insight from the conservative crowd. So, the liberals are saying that if we don’t bailout the banks and spend a bunch of money on infrastructure = catastrophe. The example I have been given is that markets were allowed to self-correct in 1929, which was a large factor in causing the Great Depression to be as great as it was.

Bush also suggested a bailout to fix this problem.
I don’t think borrowing money from our future generations is necessarily the best way to solve this problem.

And here’s the “I need help part”, what is the best way to deal with this from a conservative perspective?

    Thanks.

  3. Phil Border Says:

Interesting anecote in Dick Golembiewski’s “Milwaukee Television History” (highly recommended for anyone interested in Milwaukee history, not just its broadcast history)In the 1970′s, WTMJ’s enterprising investigative reporter Bob Sherwood discovered that Kohls Foods was selling ground beef mixed with pork, but labeled all beef. The owner (and presently ‘Nobody’s Senator) Herb Kohl personally pressured station management not to run the story.

Tells you something about his ethics. As well as aan abiding inability to properly charaterize pork

  4. John Smith Says:

The best way to help the economy is to reduce corrupt and inefficient government. Every bill passed has extra add-ons, such that the friends of the government get their share. They all start with the people, the children, the poor … in mind, but the corruption insures that the people, the children, the poor … never get it. As entitlement and corruption grows, so does the government.

    1. FHA/HUD – Shown to primarily benefit friends of the government (Senators and Congressmen), considered predatory loans to people who really cannot budget their money in order to make payments. Banks, citizens, and government use loopholes to funnel money to themselves, live for free till foreclosure, and then walk away without accountability. Government insures loan, bank gets bailed out, someone lived for free in a house they really couldn’t afford, all on tax payer dollar. FHA/HUD although a nice concept, is not necessary.

    2. Social Security – Money specifically designated for social security for all, corrupt government figured out how to take the money for other uses. Lock the funds back up to be reserved for social security only.

Medicare – Wait several months for treatment/test and/or be denied, doctors not paid, bills not paid, where exactly did the money go?

    3. IRS – Lost 4.7 billion last year, Poof.?!

    4. US aid for Africa – http://www.usaid.com Billions of dollars per year forcing our culture on people that do not want it and actually hate us for it. Money received for aid actually used to buy 30 tanks in Kenya (Subsidizing war or control of it people). Food sold to feed camels in Saudi, while the people are still starving… Good idea, but apparently they do not need to be saved.

    5. Un-uniformly taxing particular individuals or businesses – Unconstitutional, divides the country and increases joblessness, creating larger government. Taking some ones profit is un-constitutional.

    6. Education – 49% truancy rate. Try to teach a class where half of the students don’t show half the time. The other half will much less as the others pull them behind. The parents are responsible, but not held responsible? Hold the parents responsible. Boarding schools.
The teachers work for the parents, the parents are entitled to continue to be irresponsible,

    7. Welfare in schools – Free breakfast and hot lunch, because the parents sent the kids to school with out lunch. And kids can not learn if they are not feed. The parents are responsible, but not held responsible? Hold the parents responsible. Boarding schools.

    8. Welfare system for children – Money given to parents who spend unwisely, then if they actually make sure the kid makes it to school, they are hungry for there is no money left for breakfast or lunch. Money defraud by pretend childcare loopholes. Deadbeat dads not held accountable, but still hang around for the free welfare money meant for the kids.

    9. Food stamps – Food stamps used to buy carts full of steaks to sold for cash.

    10. Crime – Community cries for help, but then complains and fights for criminals freedoms. Reduce task forces and police in areas where people want the criminals back.

    11. IRAQ – They must want and have to fight for themselves, for their freedom, we have helped enough.

  5. TerryN Says:

Jim Sensenbrenner has a good idea to stimulate the economy. The IRS takes in about $700B each year. Instead of spending $700B on pork and more corrupt bureaucracies, suspend all income taxes for one year. Let us keep our own money and do with it what we wish.

Too bad this will never happen.

  6. A Nonymouse Says:

    Change you can believe in:

    January 20, 2009:

    1. Outgoing President George W. Bush quietly boards his helicopter and leaves for Texas, commenting only: “Today is not about me. Today is a historical day for our nation and people.”

    Eight years ago:

    1. Outgoing President Bill Clinton schedules two separate radio addresses to the nation, and organizes a public farewell speech/rally in downtown Washington D.C. scheduled to conflict directly with incoming President Bush’s inauguration ceremony.

    January 20, 2009:

    2. President Bush leaves office without issuing a single Presidential pardon, only granting a commutation of sentence to two former border patrol agents convicted of shooting a convicted drug smuggler. He does not grant any type of clemency to Scooter Libby or any other former political aide, ally, or business partner.

    Eight years ago:

    2. President Clinton issues 140 pardons and several commutations of sentence on his final day in office. Included in these are: billionaire financier, convicted tax evader, and leading Democratic campaign contributor Marc Rich; Whitwater scandal figure Susan McDougal;
Congressional Post Office Scandal figure and former Democratic Congressman Dan Rostenkowski; convicted bank fraud, sexual assault and child porn perpetrator and former Democratic Congressman Melvin Reynolds; and convicted drug felon Roger Clinton, the President’s half-brother.

    January 19, 2009:

    3. The Bush daughters leave gift baskets in the White House bedrooms for the Obama daughters, containing flowers, candy, stuffed animals, DVD’s and CD’s, and heartfelt notes of encouragement and advice for the young girls on how to prepare for their new lives in the White House.

    Eight years ago:

    3. Clinton and Gore staffers rip computer wires and electrical outlets from the White House walls, stuff piles of notebook papers into the White House toilets, systematically remove the letter “W” from every computer key-pad in the entire White House, and damage several thousand dollars worth of furniture in the White House master bedroom.

What did you people expect they’d do?
We are seeing the greatest power grab in this country since the Civil War. The left would stab you in the eyes for power.

Would you trust him is he said we face CATASTROPHE unless you get on board.

  12. John Smith Says:

Ok, if its legit show us the agendas and the meeting minutes - who was at the meetings/when. Problem solved.

Mr. Randall is obviously a friend of the Milwaukee government (Coggs and Holloway) and credit taker. I seriously doubt he put 250,000 of work (800 per kid) to get 300 jobs filled? Now the children will have 250,000 less and Randall can afford to jet set off to inagurations on his own merits (gutted Milwaukee taxpayers out of 250k). Why exactly are we paying Randall to find work for particular people. I’m pretty sure there is already a department (DWD, jobservice) for this sort of business. Highway robbery, stealing money from our kids, double Doyle dipping.

Sort of makes you sick when you see the hungry uneducated impoverish children on tv, with Coggs and Randall running away with the money meant to help them.

  13. Clint Says:

anyone notice the drop in the market today??

I wonder how much of it is a reaction to BO’s speech last night that was full of more fear than it was hope…

  14. gus Says:

First of all John Smith, Randall is an “insider”, I’m sure you’ve seen him on all the “panel shows”.
Second, you shouldn’t be so critical. I mean Randall did say he was working on a “brochure” of some sort. Mizz Coggs and Mr Randall work “closely” together and the results have been outstanding. Just ask them.

  15. Jodi Says:

    DO YOU HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE??

IF OBAMA GETS THIS PASSED ON FRIDAY YOU WILL NOT HAVE IT ANY LONGER.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aLzfDxfbwhzs

and also Mark Belling was talking about it

    I cannot believe it!!!!!

  16. John Smith Says:

I’m sure they have been asked, but have not shown the meetings/minutes, cause maybe there were none. When is Clark going to pay the children back the money she stole from them. Probably putting together fake documents to cover her tracks. I don’t think shes going to get the DC people to help her steal from children.

  17. John Smith Says:

Jodi, where did you find this, Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

So my parents voted for heathcare for the children, but are now getting an early death? They are proposing to control the doctors, to control the treatments, if your too old, your better off dead? Unless you are a friend of the government or can jet set off to another country of course.

And he tries to sneak this through in his stimulus package. To arms I say, to arms.

Did anyone else notice how often Obama said umm, during his press conference yesterday?

Yes. He reminds me of the old Good Morning America host, David Hartman.

  22. Jodi Says:

John- I sat in my car at 3:21pm listening to AM 1130, Belling in the middle of talking about this. I was wondering if my ears needed to be checked. I know Belling can get a little long winded about some things, but after listening to him and callers, then Paul Ryan on his show, I am actually yelling in my car OMG!!!! I know Nobama is a socialist but did not know he was a dictator! Then, Belling mentioned this article on bloomberg.com, and checked it out as soon as I got home at 4. I then proceeded to email my friends and family, made some phone calls, talked with a few neighbors about this (who did not believe me and looked at me like I was crazy…..oh wait, they always look at me like that! :) H and looked up phone numbers to my Senator, etc.

What hacks me off is that it does not seem too many people are upset about this!!!!!! What else is he trying to slip by us???? How in the heck does health care fit in with stimulating the economy??? I would like to think even supporters of Universal Health Care would want this on a separate bill and get it done right.

This infuriates me, and scares the you know what out of me!!!

  23. Bruce Says:

Here’s the Bloomberg Op-Ed piece which Jodi refers to in her comments above.

Jodi, here’s the deal. The Democrats believe that they’ve spent the past 8 years under an illegitimately elected, ruthless dictator. Payback’s a bitch, isn’t it folks?

Like none of you moderates who voted for The Messiah saw this coming? Oh my, you folks are gullible.

They’ve been keeping this stuff under the mattress (or, I’d argue, in the pantry closet) just waiting for the day that they could steamroll their “end justifies the means” agenda through the system which they now hold the keys to.

They know better than you, and your democracy, what’s best for you, after all. They’re liberals. The brightest, most insightful, most progressive, and most compassionate of all creatures.

This is the portion of their agenda which they’re going to accomplish within the first month of their perceived “mandate.”

    God help us all.

  24. Jaeson Says:

I think Bruce hit the nail on the head.

In fact, I’d place money on it that we’re less than 20 years from hearing the moonbats claim that the Constitution needs to be rewritten to reflect their fantasy based sensibilities.

  25. Jodi Says:

Thanks Bruce!! I guess in my frustrated filled rant I forgot to post that link!! :)

I hope Paul Ryan posts the specifics of this part of the stimulus soon, like he said. I cannot find it anywhere else right now.

  26. John Smith Says:

So this is really a DEATH bill.

Notice to all elderly - you will be not be getting quality health if Obama thinks your to old. If you want to live, your going to have to leave, apparently he is showing you the door.

How old is to old, well if your a government official, your going to get whatever you need. However, if your retired or not working productively, your to old and are just going to have to deal with it - as Obama plan points out.

So Hillary and Obama have sneaked a DEATH sentence for the Elderly under the guise of a Stimulus bill.

  27. Dan Says:

Obama, in his town hall campaing rally, ripped on companies who have their meetings in Las Vegas. Now, 2 major compainies have cancelled their meetings, costing the economy of Vegas millions of dollars in lost revenue. So, from the dealers, waitresses, clerks, hotel maids, thank you Obama and the Dem’s for taking away revenue from them.
Apparently, there is good stimulus and bad stimulus.

  28. John Smith Says:

Well, what is the point of being an elderly American, if Obama is sentencing you to DEATH with his health care plan. He controls the doctors (or they face great fine and penalties), he controls whether or not you are worthy of care, he controls your life.

What does he think is going to happen when they all have to move to a foreign country for healthcare in order to live. I doubt they will be spending here anymore. This is not a stimulus package, it is a DEATH to America package.

  29. John Smith Says:

Death to the grandparents Stimulus Bill:

Who exactly are the main healthcare providers of Milwaukee children. I think that it can be shown that the very grandparents that Obama is sentencing to DEATH are really the main healthcare providers of the Milwaukees children. So, Mr. Obama why are you killing the healthcare providers of Milwaukees children in the name of the children.

I suspect you will have more elderly driving up to whitehouse to deliver packages now that you have sentenced them and their spouses to death.

  30. HeatherRadish Says:

Hrm, I read the link and I didn’t see “Daschle’s plan will take away your private health insurance.” But I did see “Daschle’s plan will intentionally bankrupt hospitals and punish doctors who use treatments appropriate to their patients’ needs unless that treatment just happens to be on a bureaucrat’s list.”

You or your employer will still be sinking money into insurance, there just won’t be any place outside of government-run clinics in major metropolitan areas to get care. I wonder how much money Daschle got from insurance lobbyists to write this…

    * There’s already a shortage of people coming out of American med schools planning on going into general or family practice-extreme long hours and reduced pay compared to 4-day-a-week specialties. Federally mandated maximum compensation and threats of prison for delivering appropriate patient care isn’t going to help. Cue the visas for more foreign-trained doctors!

  31. jodster Says:

    John,

It is also a death to people with serious conditions and diseases bill. I have MS (multiple sclerosis). I am lucky in that it is RRMS, the slow moving kind. I am a 36 year old woman, a special ed. teacher, a conservative, a mommy to a 3 year old, a wife to a wonderful husband, a daughter to 2 of the best parents ever, a sister to 2 siblings and a friend. I can walk, I can work, I can play, I can do anything normal, except I get tired easier and have some aches and pains that I am used to.

I can function this well BECAUSE OF MY HEALTH INSURANCE AND THE WONDERFUL DOCTORS I HAVE AND THE MEDICATIONS I AM ON! Universal Health Care=me in a wheelchair. The government will get to decide what treatments/meds/tests I can have? I know they wouldn’t approve most of the stuff I get and do. This is the same for a lot of other Americans. This is so sad.

Sorry Jodster, Pharoah Obama is doing this for your own good. If you are a drain on his economy you must be eliminated. Unless you fall into some “protected class”.
Nancy Pelosi can afford “PRIVATE” COSMETIC SURGERY so she gets to live.

  34. John Smith Says:

    Jodster,

Yes, if you look at the intent of the Death-Claus Stimulus package.

    From the article:

“Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.”

It is not looking good for anyone that does not function to the unknown standards of to old, which will quickly move to seriously ill, on life support, HIV/aids, …

It is most certain Death for the good of the whole at your expense, but labled free and for the good of the children. I can think of one case close to home, where a neighbors child was suspected to have diabetes by a school nurse. Being on Medicare, she was put on a 13 week waiting list to be tested. This is our government at work.

  35. gus Says:

Johm Smith, let me see if I understand Limosine Tom Daschle??
“Kill the unborn, let the old die, so long as I get this neat limo with color tv and gps system”

Do I have it correct? Imagine how much health care that $128,000.00 he dodged could pay for.

  36. John Smith Says:

Sadly, many of the elderly do not have internet and the media is not telling them about the DEATH-Clause.

The doctor (refence link) will most likely take the brunt of the DEATH STIMULUS Package, not even knowing they are proposing to cut off his healthcare, for he is to old:
    http://www.cnn.com:80/2009/US/02/11/amputee.housing.crisis/index.html

I would say the elderly are our greatest asset. These are the people that gave us the freedom. What is Obama thinking, using our freedoms to kill the elderly.

  37. gus Says:

John Smith, they don’t need to know, they need to go away. They are now non-persons.

Unfortunately, it’s not that big of a change from the insurance plans many of us now have. Insurance comapnies having admiinistrators decide which procedures are approved, and what hoops must be jumped to qualify for them. 44. John Smith Says:

    Mr. Big_hairy_bubba,

This is a huge change, do you not see, they are controlling the doctor. If you do not like your insurance get different insurance, you are free to choose. You do not like the doctor, you are free to go to another doctor. If insurance doesn’t pay, you are free to pay for a procedure that you want.

What they are proposing is that doctors can not help, if they so choose, under penalty of great fine or jail. Like in Cananda and the UK, they have to come here to help if the procedure is not on the list or if they would be dead before they get their turn (4-6 month process in some cases) or till it gets ok’d by government.

If the 47 million people that do not have insurance would budget for paying insurance, we wouldn’t even be considering this.

I keep hearing the story of the man sitting in his car dead, because he didn’t have health insurance. New SUV, new house, toys, cable tv, high speed internet, he made free choice in a free country to choose not to pay for the insurance, and on top of that, he could have just all the money he saved by not paying for insurance for the bypass. Yes, people make choices, but they are free to choose.

If you to punish someone, punish the people who choose to spen unwisely.

  45. John Smith Says:

    Dear Mr. Doyle,

You over taxed WI citizens last year in the name of the children. The children did not get the money, it was stolen. You have to hold the bad guys responsible, not the taxpayers. You have to take their freedoms away, not the taxpayers. You have caught the bad guys, punish the bad guys, not the taxpayers. If you spend all the money trying to get the money to the children, the children will still not get any money/help. You have to punish/force the parents to get their kids to school with lunch in hand. They are entitiled to it. The parents that cannot will be charged for boarding school. If they cannot pay they can be given a loan for schooling instead of a big house. These loans can be bailed out for the good of the taxpayers, not preditory FHA/HUD.

If someone defrauds our children, take their freedom away, not ours and our children. The bad guys are the people that screw the system for their personal benefit, not the taxpayers. You must hold them responsible, even if they have children. We have children too.

What were you guys thinking when you came up with spending more money when the children still won’t get it - 49% truancy rate. Fix the problem, don’t put a bandaid on broken arm.

  48. big_hairy_bubba Says:

    Mr John Smith -

Controlling the doctor is new. And yes, I am free to find another doctor if I don’t like the one I have now.

I’m also free to find other insurance - if I can find a company willing to take on the pre-existing conditions my family and I have. I may have to sell the house and live under a bridge to pay for that insurance, if I can find it at all, but theoretically I am free to make those choices.

Free to pay out of pocket for procedures my insurance won’t cove? Sure I am. At roughly double the insurance discounted rate.

So yes, I’ve got all those freedoms, but I’m not really all that free to use them. I hope you’ll understand if I’m less excited about these freedoms than you are on my behalf.

  49. John Smith Says:

No, just not buy a 500,000 dollar house and two SUV’s. People are willing to fork out 500 to 1000 bucks a month for a shinney new car, but not for health insurance.

    Possible sources for health insurance:
100-200/month for cable and high-speed internet.
    100/month for car insurance.
    1000/month credit card.
    1000/month mortgage or rent.
    300-400/month for food.
    200-400/month for gas.

And you sit here and tell me you have not freak’n money for health insurance, your life, your families lives.

So your going to try and make someone else pay for it and have the government control it - what are you nuts.

  50. John Smith Says:

    Mr. big_hairy_bubba,

You fool no one, if you spend your money unwisely. If you spend all of your money on frivoulous things, you have none left for healthcare.

I see all spending their healthcare money for cell phones on every kids ears, SUV’s/cars, High speed internet, cable tv, big screen tv’s, drugs, alchol, shopping spree’s, steaks, resturant food…Do not pretend you don’t. Do the math.

If you valued your family you would easily find quality healthcare readily available. If you didn’t constantly vote and steal from your neighbors they would most certainly help you. Instead you vote to kill the elderly (are the primary childcare in Milwaukee) in the STIMULUS package and blame everyone else for your problems, and get the healthcare for free anyways when you go to the hospital. We are punished by the people that don’t bother to save or invest in healthcare, we are victims.

Maybe one should plan ahead before starting a family? You are not entitled to healthcare and you will not be getting for free from the government as the promise you. Just like Medi-care you will be denied.

Holy crap- Obama is comparing himself to Lincoln. There is nothing in common between those two.
On the other hand, Lincoln started a civil war over slavery. Obama and Dem’s might start a civil war over slavery, but taxes, inflation, rights taken away etc.are the slavery issues.

    Mr. John Smith -

You know nothing about me. I do have a job, a paycheck, and health insurance. I have never had a car payment over $300 a month. My newest vehicle (yes I have 2) is 8 years old. I am a veteran. I have worked and paid taxes all my life. I have even attended and graduated college. I have voted in every election since I was old enough. I even have some money saved for retirement.

I hope you never find yourself unemployed and facing serious health problems with a family member. You will receive a rude awakening to the reality of our current system should that ever be the case.

Then again, you’re most likely a troll on the dole, or a public employee.

    Mr. Big_hairy_bubba,

Actually thats what Social Security was/is for, for people who couldn’t/can’t work. The government changed their mind when the saw all the money sitting there, took that money for roads I recall.

Where is the government really going to spend your healthcare money? Have you been denied on Medicare? What was the real out of pocket cost relative to the 3000-8,000 per year spent on your insurance.

Really, is the current medical care to expensive, relative to the 45,000 SUV that just passed buy and the extra condo in Florida. This is just all media hype.

With the elderly death-clause in the STIMULUS package are the pills you can get right now really too expensive, cause if the government decides they will not let the doctor treat you, you will not be able to get the pills at all, priceless.
