Bradley Tech High School erupted in violence again as up to 200 students became involved in a fight. 17 students were arrested and one police officer was injured when punched in the face by a 17 year old girl, who was arrested for Battery to a Police Officer. Below is the statement from the Milwaukee Police Department.

A Milwaukee Police Officer is recovering from injuries he sustained during a disturbance at Bradley Tech High School this afternoon. The officer, a school resource officer at Bradley Tech, was treated on the scene for his injuries after he was punched in the face by a 17-year-old female. She was arrested for Battery to a Police Officer, a felony. She will be booked into the jail.

A total of 17 people were arrested: 10 males and 7 females, including the 17-year-old female who punched the officer. The other 16 people will be booked, issued city citations for Disorderly Conduct (a $73 fine), and are expected to be released.

The incident began about 2:25 p.m. as a fight among teens at the school that escalated into a disturbance that involved about 200 people.

No other injuries were reported.

What a shame that Bradley H.S. was a gift to MPS and it has been ghettoized. Since this not the first time this has happened at Bradley, you have to blame MPS. How many cops are stationed there permentally? How much intelligence is gathered by the police and administrtors to prevent this riot from happening? Sounds like little or none. This is another reason why MPS is failing- kids don’t feel safe at school and this IS something MPS can do something about.

  2. Ron Says:

What MPS needs is less carrot and more stick…good luck with that. No institution can withstand wave after wave of ghetto-ization and apathy.

  3. Dan Says:

“No institution can withstand wave after wave of ghetto-ization and apathy.”
Actually, Ron, that is wrong. I teach at at a “ghetto” school in Vegas and because we have at least 3 police officers at our school full time and an administration that care about education of kids who want to learn and kick out the kids who don’t want to learn, we don’t have the violence that MPS has.

  4. Ron Says:

The lack of apathy is the reason then, also Vegas has a tougher mentality than Milwaukee.
The military might be another model.

  5. Clint Says:

Once again, I have to ask….

Is MPS’s drop out rate too low? Why do we encourage these kids to stay in school?

  6. John Smith Says:

Mr. Doyle to the rescue, lets just raise taxes on those nasty corporations another 13%, then we can get even more money to these kids and give them punch cards too.

I wish Doyle would try to teach one of these randomly selected classes with out a body guard. 49% truancy, kids that still can’t read, lost books, lost homework, get beat up by parents and other students and now if they graduate - may have no chance for a productive job - thanks to Doyle.

Again, you have to hold the parents and these kids responsible. Not the taxpayers and corporations, they did not start the fight and even provided a really nice school full of teachers and books.

  7. Jaeson Says:

If only these kids had eaten a free breakfast, all this violence could have been avoided.

  8. tbones Says:

Bradley Tech has two full time MPD officers on site and still is a zoo. The Bradley Foundation money was well-intended, but miss managed by MPS in the way the school was built (open concept which means any distraction can’t be ignored) and staffed (put truants there rather than the old boys tech kids who wanted to learn).

  9. HeatherRadish Says:

Why do we encourage these kids to stay in school?

If they let the teenagers who don’t want to be stuck in school drop out so they don’t get in the way of the kids who actually want to get a diploma, there would be such a dramatic cut in student numbers they’d have to close buildings and reduce the numbers of teachers/staff. Their unions would go ballistic.

  10. John Smith Says:

The only way to keep the kids that drop out, out of prison costing taxpayer ~27k per year, was to put them in the military. But traggically we shut all of the military bases down and the military now requires college graduates.

I’m sorry, but if you drop out of the free school, taxpayers bleed to pay for you, you should NOT be entitled to free healthcare and FHA loan. It should be the opposite, a high interest loan to get your GRD and a swift kick in the pants.

We can no-longer stand to be the victims of the criminals and deadbeats, 40% of the population of Milwaukee already burdens use, do not add more if they are free to choose not to participate. Take their freedoms away not ours and our childrens.

Military wouldn’t be the only way (and I believe bloggers currently serving when they tell me forcing illiterate sloths to join up would be bad for the military). Back before one’s “teenage years” were a sacred entitlement to responsibility-free non-stop entertainment, and the “education experts” decided every teenager should be forced into college-preparation studies regardless of interest or ability, teenagers who didn’t want to continue formal schooling were allowed to work. Menial, apprentice-type jobs, usually employed by family, but they were doing something productive and legitimately earning a small income while they learned how to be useful.

Yeah, I know, “progressives” will never consider going to go back to those dark days where self-esteem came from being competent and teenagers were expected to contribute instead of being parked in a building 8 hours a day so adults wouldn’t have to interact with them (except the few, the proud, the degreed-and-certified Educators).

Apathy isn’t just a problem at MPS, suburban and rural high schools are full of kids who don’t want to be there (and could be more productive somewhere else) dragging everyone else down. The difference seems to be a family/neighborhood culture that “values education” by compelling them to sit it out until they’re 18 and get to the full-time partying in Madison, where they drink for a year or two before moving into a job they could have done at 16 without incurring student loan debt. And you can’t suggest importing “white” values like “make your child show up, and on time” into urban neighborhoods because that’s racist, so I won’t-I will suggest that to help the kids who have the interest in and ability to learn, they should remove the assholes who are interfering with their education.

Once upon a time at 2:30 in the afternoon, there lived a wise and benevolent SecDef who conceived of a great social experiment. He decided to waive enlistment standards for a large group of young men who would not otherwise qualify to enlist. After 4 years of military service, he reasoned, these young men would be disciplined, wih skills they could put to use in the civilian world, and, upon completion of their service, would have veteran’s benefits for housing and education. Thus was born McNamara’s 100,000.

Google it…. if you have a strong stomache…

Alderman Bob Donovan offers his solution:

Yesterday’s melee at Bradley Tech High School – which included a punch to the face for one of Milwaukee’s fine police officers – is yet another sad example of just how out of control Milwaukee Public Schools have become.

    Read the full statement.

  15. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

Just like in the NFL and NBA, all you have to do is give MPS an extra million, billion or trillion and just watch their performance jump off the charts. This problem will never be solved as long as fools continue to elect enablers to political office - including the MPS School Board.

  16. Dennis Says:

Let’s turn Bradley Tech into a prison since a lot of the city’s “thugs” are already there. Every time you turn around there’s a fight going on at this place! When is something going to be done about this? How much would it cost us taxpayers to put bars on the windows? Probably a lot cheaper than having police officers assigned to the school. Bradley Tech isn’t a school - it’s a zoo. Give me a break!!! SHUT IT DOWN NOW.

  17. gus Says:

Maybe they could spend more money there, or teach them in Spanish, or maybe FOLKTUNES could put on a free “concert” as his guitar skills are not being used elsewhere. Maybe midnight basketball, maybe free ipods, breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
Maybe if we had more after school snacks or a day care for the “baby mama’s”. Maybe if we gave the superintendant a YMCA membership, or if we bought more bottled water or we spend FIDDY THOU at the CORK n CLEAVER, or maybe if we gave gay teachers “partners” benefits, or maybe if we reduced class sizes or created a BLUE RIBBON PANEL. Maybe if we had more condoms to hand out or if we took God out of the schools or if we showed Al Gore’s groovy movie.

MPS is a SHI+ HOLE. Folktunes works there.

  18. dad29 Says:

On Saturday, I watched a number of Bradley Tech students receive awards for their performance in public speaking-well-deserved awards, I should add.

It’s too bad that they have to endure the crap going on in that school; obviously, SOME Bradley Tech kids have a future.

  19. MvnOn Says:

Have patience my friends. Once the stimulus waste starts kicking in, MPS will get hundreds of millions to throw at the problem. I’m sure that you won’t see these types of problems after that-NOT! What a disgrace.

That entire organization needs to be overhauled from top to bottom, replacing existing leaders with ones who have traditional ideas and values. Good luck finding folks like that to elect in this area.
