Just a couple observations I had on this semi-scripted event…

Is it just me or did the questions from most of the reporters seem to have a sharper edge to them? I won’t go so far as to give any of them a pat on the back…this is, after all, what they should be doing. But the questioning did seem to make The One a bit uncomfortable. I lost count after the fifth time he qualified his own statement with “That’s not just my opinion” or “You don’t have to take my word for it” or, my favorite, “That’s not just me saying that.” His confidence level was clearly shaken…embarrassing to watch really. I half-expected him to dust off the old “that question’s above my pay grade.”

When asked what he is doing about the Mexican drug war, he basically said, “Let’s talk about what we did today…” which was his commitment to send “millions of dollars” worth of equipment to assist law enforcement. When asked for his take on the Texas governor’s recent call for National Guardsmen to be stationed on the border…Obama dodged that one. He went on to give some typical political platitudes and say that SecState Clinton will be visiting with President Calderon in the next two weeks.

A bit of perspective on the Mexican drug war…….in 2008 alone, over 6000 people were killed in drug war violence. Compare that to 4578…the total number of deaths as of this writing suffered by Coalition forces in SIX YEARS of fighting/rebuilding/peacekeeping in Iraq.

We’ll see what report Mrs. Clinton has for us after her return. Given the Obama Administration’s “Govern By Crisis” playbook, I suspect she will come back with louder rhetoric calling for stricter gun control laws. I don’t know why the flow of guns into Mexico would surprise anyone…thanks to every jerk who buys some weed/coke/heroin/etc that came from/through Mexico, those same networks used for distributing dope in this country are in a perfect postition to procure weapons from this country and take them back. Ever see the long lines on the Mexican side of the border, versus the usually non-existent lines on our side?

It’s a talking point the Left is already hammering. As usual…stories like this one from the New York Times make a superficial reference to a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms statistic claiming 90% of all weapons used by cartels come from the US. Meanwhile, a different report from the USA Today seems to cite the same “90%” statistic, but qualifies it to relate to only those gun which have been seized and traced. Not really sure what the BATF report actually says since none of these news outlets could be bothered with linking to a copy of it…they’d prefer you just accept their analysis. The BATF doesn’t have this report posted on their website either.

The US government also supplies weapons to the Mexican government. I have read reports indicating Mexico lost control over some of its own weapons caches…whether due to corruption or outright theft, military grade weapons are out there doing damage as well. These are not the kind you can get from George Iknadosian, the Phoenix area gun dealer who was the first to be tied to the stake during this renewed campaign against the 2nd Amendment. Tied to the stake, but not burned.

Lastly…A Quiz Question: When asked about the CBO’s projection that his economic/taxation plans will lead to $7 Trillion in deficits…Obama waved his hand above the crowd and said:

A) “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”
B) “Did anyone else have a question?”
C) “Thank you, President Obama”
D) “Well, they have their figures and I have mine. My figures indicate that by spending more money we’ll actually reduce deficits.”

I couldn’t help but notice the oft repeated mantra of “Tax relief, Healthcare and Energy somehow being related to just about anything he was asked.

As for the issue you brought up with the drug cartels in Mexico. Be afraid, be very afraid! This problem will be used as a justification to implement more gun control. I find it very scary that Obama feels my rights are secondary and disposable because of Mexico’s inability, because of corruption, to deal with the cartels!

I’d like to know where in the United States we have all these Automatic Rifles and sub-machine guns for sale to the general public that are supposedly smuggled down to Mexico, grenades too for that matter! Didn’t see them at Cabela’s the last time I was there. I find these “Statistics” to be more BS that fact. Seeing how Mexico’s neighbors to the south were in heavy civil wars not too long ago, I think they might want to look there for the source of all the AK’s and explosive thingies that the Cartels have.

A few years ago, down south, I could walk into almost any gun show and buy a “de-militarized” assault rifle. If I had a FFL, the military versions were available, or so signs proclaimed.

I seriously doubt if all the guns I could have bought at shows would amount to a hill of beans in Mexico’s problems. To keep things in perspective, when I was in Mexico City 12 years ago, private security guards were carrying Thompsons.

The coorruption in Mexico makes Chicago politics look clean by comparison.

We had a descriptive for stuff like this in the Army. Humma Humma Humma x 350 or so. Turn off his teleprompter and he will become jell-o. It is all the same thing now over and over to get the lies to be believed - sound familiar? Adolph who?
sometimes you have to let thing settle of their own accord. This is something we have totally forgotten and now disregard as an option completely. It is however a very real option. Mexico got that way on it’s own - let it fix itself on it’s own.

You guys didn’t answer the quiz question.

  6. Martin Says:

    All of the above?

  7. Martin Says:

I heard something about that mentioned while I had the radio on during my shift.

    I thought they were kidding!!!!!

This entire Mexico Guns thing really pisses me off. For all you blue collar union guys who voted for President Obama pay attention to what is going on here. They are using the problems in Mexico to try and take your guns away, Period! They are not going to try and secure the border. After all taking a grenade into Mexico I assume would be illegal both there and here. When S of S Clinton goes down to talk to the Mexican President (I think she should invite him here) she should back him into a corner and say that she is very interested in how Mexico secures it’s southern boarder and should that be the approach we take. Also their immigration laws seem very intriguing. They may work very well here. After all what is good for the goose….

One more thing for the Union crowd. This President does not work for you, he works for your Union Bosses. There is a fine balance with the union that helps you keep all of those benefits. If all or most of all of America is organized you lose every benefit you could possibly have. Your power is there by keeping people out. On the other hand if all of America or most is organized the Union bosses will be the wealthiest most powerful people in the country and you will be the subject of a monarchy

  9. Bruce Says:

Roland, the answer to your quiz question is (D).

He’s run the numbers. He’s got it all in an Excel file on his BlackBerry. The CBO is just flat out wrong. The One has spoken.

I see a teleprompter triangle developing here. While Obama was answering questions, his usual teleprompter was keying his car.

  10. John Smith Says:

Yes, the statistic is vague and the guns were most likely originally sold by our government, although I see many foreign guns laid out. Interesting they are careful not to show the gernades, gernade lauchers, or other weapons not readily available and most likely provided by our government.

This is clearly a media biased attempt to show need for more gun control. What about gernade control? Why don’t they talk about the 534 million we are giving to Kenya this year alone, that they are using to by tanks instead of feeding their people. How many lives will be lost there. How many people will be killed by these tanks we subsidized? Far more than any cartel drug dealer with pea shooter gun.

    Wake up America?

  11. Dave_Sheboygan Says:

Today Barbra Walters [The View] said that Obama didn’t seem to connect because the telepromter was way in the back of the room and not typically where it normally is.

How many more excuses do we have to hear about Obama. Do we need to start making a list?

    1. It’s Bush’s fault
    2. The telepromter malfunctioned
    3. The telepromter was way in the back
    4. It’s AIG’s fault, not mine for not checking or not caring
    5. No one else has a plan
    6. I didn’t know they didn’t pay their taxes
    7. It’s only been 60 days

  12. Martin Says:

My lovely wife summed up the “Press Conference” with the best words possible; “It was a monologue with people asking questions during it.” Her Pol-Sci students(Those that watched it)that she subbed for said the whole thing was “Weird” and seemed to be staged.

John, regardless of the Military hardware on display, the Obama implication is going to be that these are guns that citizens in the US are able to buy. An since no one dares question “The One” it will be parroted as “Fact” by the MSM.

Yeppers, can’t understand WHY there is a rush to buy guns since the election.

Dear Leader’s flapping yap was on every 12′ screen at the Detroit airport while I was trapped there this afternoon. I was grateful for earplugs.
