I’ve visited the former World Trade Center area three times since September 11, 2001. I’ve stood at the base of many of the buildings visible in this video. It’s a compact and remarkably populated area.

Which is why I’m left wondering why doing dives and sharply banked turns over the area with an airplane bearing the same markings as Air Force One would ever make sense to anyone.

I don’t think the issue is whether President Obama authorized this, or even knew about it. I think the question is how anything this stupid, reckless and insensitive toward New Yorkers could be executed by our government. And to hear that apparently no one at the White House bothered to personally inform Mayor Bloomberg about this “photo shoot?” Pure insanity.

Perhaps someday we’ll see the end-result of this ridiculous stunt, and we’ll understand why it was so important. Call me a cynic, but until then, I’ll be left wondering what this was really all about.

Whatever it was, I hope it was worth it.

Gee…maybe now people will actually remember what happened on 911. They sure forgot on election day.

The inmates are running the asylum!

  2. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

This is just another in a long list of examples of arrogance/immaturity coming out of gumby’s administration, but you can bet the blame will be placed squarely on some 9 to 5er, holding a position just above the trash man, who “should have called someone”. The people in charge are never held responsible. Does anybody think this was well thought out to begin with? Even if anyone does, how can anyone justify the top dog authorizing this not speaking directly to Mayor Bloomberg about it? There are some things you simply DO NOT delegate! Someone on another blog nailed it when he said it’s as if this administration is made up of frat boys. New Yorkers should be having a serious case of buyer’s remorse, but they are largely made up of Democrat zombies who will continue to vote liberal even if the little Iranian nut job drops the bomb on Israel and gumby says, “Not my problem.”

  3. Roland_Melnick Says:

    Mayor Bloomberg’s response:

I heard an audio snippet on a radio news broadcast where Bloomberg sounded rather dejected at his realization that “it’s the federal government…and they can do what they want.” Kinda symbolizes Uncle Sam’s modus operandi nowadays, eh? Don’t think so? Read the arrogant initial response by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs in this Associated Press report:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says it doesn’t have any information about the Boeing 747′s flying photo op over lower Manhattan that sent Manhattan into a panic. The plane is a version of the 747 that’s called Air Force One when the president is aboard.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Monday that he doesn’t have time to keep track of the planes used as Air Force One. He says he didn’t have any information about why the presidential aircraft and its Air Force fighter jet escort were flying near the Statue of Liberty.

Notice that Mr. Gibbs is incapable of offering a simple apology:

At one point, this idiot actually refers a reporter to the White House for comment. This guy is the White House Press Secretary!!

  4. Bruce Says:

Try to spin this one, folks:

“Why the Defense Department wanted to do a photo op right around the site of the World Trade Center catastrophe defies the imagination. Poor judgment would be a nice way to phrase it. … Had I known about it, I would have called them right away and asked them not to.” — New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg after a flyover by an Air Force One jet.

  5. Coop Says:

Have these people never heard of Photoshop? They could have gotten whatever picture it was they were after, it would have cost a LOT less money, and they wouldn’t have caused a panic in New York City.

  6. gus Says:

I can’t wait til they blame George W. Bush for this.
    Or Scott Walker.

  7. Clint Says:

    a) at least they waited until after Earth Day to waste the fuel on this

    b) When will Barry & Co realize that he needs to stop campaigning? Or has he already filed his papers for re-election?

  8. Bruce Says:

“Calling Monday’s choreographed flight of a presidential aircraft around the Statue of Liberty “really bad judgment,” Gov. Jon Corzine said he and other New Jersey officials were not informed ahead of time about the low-flying planes past the New York skyline that set off a panic on both sides of New York Harbor on Monday.

Corzine said the state is determined to learn more about the “photo op” that led thousands of workers — still haunted by the memories of 9/11 — to flee their high-rise office buildings at the unexpected sight of the huge, low-flying passenger jet over the Hudson River.

“We’ll actually push forward all the way to the White House if we have to,” the governor told reporters today after reading to schoolchildren in Ewing. “I find it really bad judgment on somebody’s part, and it’s unacceptable.”

President Barack Obama today ordered an internal review to determine how the decision was made to send of one of his official airplanes, accompanied by a single Air Force F-16, on a low-flying photo op past the New York City skyline.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said today that deputy chief of staff Jim Messina will lead the review. Gibbs said the point is to determine “why that decision was made and to ensure that it never happens again.”

Gibbs said Obama was “furious” when he heard about the incident. Obama has called it a mistake.

Gov. Jon Corzine at the State House in Trenton on Jan. 13, 2009.

Corzine said he has yet to find a New Jersey official informed in advance about the flight, which he called out of sync with “understandable anxiety that people in the metropolitan area have on both sides of the river.”

An FAA spokesman has said the flyover “was approved and coordinated with everyone,” with notifications made to the New York City Police Department, the mayor’s office, the New Jersey State Police, and other agencies.

However, a confidential security memo that went out last week by the FAA’s Air Traffic System Operations Security office — while acknowledging “the possibility of public concern regarding Department of Defense aircraft flying at low levels,” instructed that all information about the flight be kept confidential and not be released to the public or media.

“The information in this document is considered FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY, and should only be shared with persons with a need to know,” the memo declared.”

  9. Ron Says:

    Couldn’t find the Hudson?

  10. gus Says:

Bruce these HACKS think all of us are utterly stupid. How hard is it to find out who had the authority to USE Air Force 1, and who made the phone call to Andrews. As you know, one of my brothers was a USAF fighter pilot until 4 years ago. You DO NOT order USAF aircraft into the skies without ABJECT AUTHORITY. Who has it who used it. 5 minutes problem solved. Obama and his band of Merry dimwits KNOWS EXACTLY who did this. It’s coverup time, it’s scapegoat time.
A question that the FAKE MEDIA is too in the tank to ask is. “CAN WE SEE THE PASSENGER MANIFEST”.
    It is public info.
Who was this JOY RIDE for?

  11. gus Says:

Ahhh, I figured it out. Remember Sheriff Joe the Gaffe Machine Biden? He was going to scrutinize wasteful spending, kick some ass and take some names?? Is he going to get to the bottom of this caper??? Was George Soros on board in the Presidential Suite?? Maybe Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn were checking out their BLOWED UP Greenwich Village Brownstown from 1200 ft.??
Charlie Rangel doing a campaign TV spot??
Clearly, there is a bigger story here.
Opie Von Obamenstein is going to step on his Johnson at some point. He can’t help himself. He thinks he’s Mussolini. Liberals really thought that George W. Bush was a tyrrant. Opie is so far out there that it’s hard to even take liberals seriously anymore.
This story is revolting on several levels.
    1) Just to do this is arrogant beyond belief.
    2) The insensitivity and obvious lack of any ability to relate to what happened to us and specically New York is scary.
    3) Then the HAM HANDED attempt to cover it up and pretend no one knew is sickening.
I wonder when Rodham will be asked about this and it’s affect on her “hometown”?

  12. Bruce Says:

Mickey, as an answer to your question, my guess would be George Soros.

As for the “fake media” asking the “tough” questions, these are the same people who will accept “we have no one trained to estimate crowd numbers” from a top state DOA official with no (further) questions asked. (“You have no one trained to estimate crowd numbers? But you are trained to call out the National Guard? My, that’s reassuring.”)

Mickey, democracy is dead, and our side lost. Deal with it. These miscreants are in total control of this country now, dive-bombing 747′s over Manhattan with no accountability and all, and our inferior limbic brains are just along for the ride.

  13. Bruce Says:

I don’t know, Mickey. ‘Ol Chuck Schumer hasn’t minced any words. He seems truly pissed, and rightfully so.

Ms. Rodham-Clinton? Not so much, yet.

I hark back to those early days of this administration, when they were sending letters to previous world leaders, instead of their successors, in a seeming attempt to thumb their noses at legitimate leaders and just plain piss people off for fun.

That plan was seemingly such a hoot, perhaps they thought they’d try it on the whole of the City of New York, just to see how things played out. Or perhaps they wanted to see just how quickly those buildings could get evacuated with a big ‘ol specially modified 747 doing airshow moves around Battery Park.

Anyway you slice it, it’s some pretty messed up shit.

  14. gus Says:

Ah yes Bruce! Therein lies the “rub”.
Chuckie the Schmuck Schumer is still “beholding” to the good people of New York. Rodham has used them like a twice dipped….errrrrrrr….TEA BAG….and she is off to bigger and better ego trips. I’ll have the inside scoop on those ego trips soon.
Schumer has to be angered. He still needs the votes. Rodham does not.
Bruce I have some interesting stuff to e-mail you.

  15. John Foust Says:

OMG I can’t believe Obama did this. With Jorg Sorros in the plain, I bet! We all knew he’d place all his buddies in cushy gummit jobs in the FAA and USAF, and now look what they’ve done! All the good ones that Bush put in place, they’re all gone!

    Who’s Mickey?

  16. Bruce Says:

Nice spin, Foust. Go back to Huffington Post.

Here, watch this video of terrified humans running for their lives, and make some more jokes.

Then, humor aside, why not just admit that this was some twisted shit, and demand that someone be held accountable?

Hope and Change, John Foust. Hope and Change.

  17. gus Says:

    Kudo’s Bruce.
Foust is beyond CLOWNISH. But I guess I’ve made that pretty clear here.
What has always made me sad, is that OTHERS have seemed to have done the MORAL RELATIVISM dance, VIS A VIS….Obvious CLOWNS…such as FOUST.
I may NEVER post here again. I believe that we FIGHT or we DON’T FIGHT. Glenn hss been very good to me. Bruce. You have been MORE than good to me. Bruce. I consider you a dear friend. You are a very very good man. And I must say TONIGHT, that PATRICK DORWIN, has been a friend, and I believe Patrick may finally understand what I’ve been about. I don’t think that Patrick realizes what a FRIGGIN AWESOME BLOG he has CREATED!!! But in fairness to Patrick, he did and does realize OTHERS that he could “HIRE” to make his BLOG….go foreward. Patrick is a very very good guy. A “Community organizer or Social worker!” …if you will!!! Patrick cares. Patrick is…as they say…”good people”.
Clearly, I’ve pissed Patrick off VERY VERY VERY MUCH over the last 3 years. I never meant to harm or hurt Patrick. I’ve been wrong. I’ve been very very wrong in my tenor and my tactics.
But I’ve also been RIGHT. MOSTLY RIGHT.
My standards, values and morals surpass those of the TRASH, that have MANIPULATED and ATTEMPTED to MANIPULATE Patrick over the last 3 years.
Patrick had/has a BLOG to ENDURE. My HARSH CRAP is not PATRICKS concern. I’ve made Patricks job more difficult many many times.
But I’ve ALWAYS been RIGHT. I “get it”.
Bruce “get’s it”. Glenn “get’s it”.
Bruce, Glenn, Patrick and Roland, have all e-mailed me and I think all 4 of you are wonderful guys.
Glenn. You are a man. A man’s man. You are not a MACHO fake. I am better for knowing you.
Bruce. You are a STRONG MAN, you have PERSERVERED in LIfe and you have asked for no PITY nor QUARTER. Bruce, I think you are GREAT.
Bruce, I thank you for sharing PERSONAL stuff with me. We will forever be pals.
Patrick. I think we’ve become friends. Patrick, I do not think you realize what a SUCCESS you have made of yourself!! Maybe you do, BUT, Patrick, you are AN ADMINISTATOR, and not a lib pussy. You pick COMPETENT STAFF without fear of being overshadowed. God bless Patrick and Godspeed to your arm. Patrick, you KNOW..that I sincerely CARE. Don’t you?
I’m no longer interested in playing games with PHONIES whose only interest is destructive to my COUNTRY and whose interests are SELFISH non productive garbage.

  18. John Foust Says:

I wholeheartedly welcome any investigation. Of course this was a clueless and insensitive photo op.

Yes, it should’ve been PhotoShopped, but I’d also bet a doughnut that the PhotoShop’d photo would’ve been detected by someone on the Internets and then touted as more evidence that Obama is all about the fake. Investigate, investigate, investigate. Don’t jump to premature conclusions. Of course it’ll be blamed on a middle manager and/or subordinate. I’ve seen it a million times. Oh, I’m not supposed to admit that dumb PR and marketing happens in private industry, too.

I’m quite impressed by the tendency to pin everything on Obama, no matter how small. It’s like you guys were watching and learning from the left over the past eight years! And here I thought you were watching Fox.

And you guyses are the beshtest frens a guy could evah have!!!! Beertenda, ‘nuther roun for my buddehs!

  19. GMan Says:

Foust, please, crawl back into whatever hole you came from.

  20. Clint Says:

Foust - people wouldnt be so quick to jump on BO if he wasn’t such a narcissistic micro manager.

  21. John Foust Says:

It’s like he’s a dessert topping *and* a floor wax. He’s a micro-manager, yet he’s clueless! He’s a spineless wimp, yet he’s a fascist dictator! He’s a sly manipulator of public opinion and won the election, yet everyone hates him!

  22. Clint Says:

    Exactly John

    He is a clueless micromanager

He is a spineless wimp - He is apologizing and begging for forgiveness from everyone not a US citizen - yet is a dictator. Dicktaters don’t have to have a spine… Dicktaters only need power regardless of whether they were given it, are propped, or take it from force.

People don’t hate him - In order for that to happen they media would have to start barraging him like the did GWB. But people are starting to dislike the way that he is governing because he - as stated in other threads - made promises based on his audience and not his beliefs.

  23. Dan Says:

I agree to a point with John. This was probably a mid to high level government official, probably wanting to suck up to Obama, who ordered this. I also believe the person is probably an Obama appointee because a person in government or military long enough would have realized this was a stupid idea. Further, since the people in the know wanted it be kept a secret, that only makes me more convinced it was someone with the Obama administration who ordered it.
John is also correct is saying that if they photoshopped it, someone on the Internet probably would have said FAKE!! But here’s the difference- that would be a non-story for 99% of the people and most people would have realized that flying over NYC would have been a bad idea. The Obama administration didn’t have faith in the people to make that distiniction.
and yes, John is right, bad PR happens in the private industry but if that happens, the PR company is at fault but when the government screws up, it is us tax payers who get the bill.
