The KRM board could impose the sales tax without the approval of voters or elected officials. (http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/44125027.html)

WTF? I’m getting used to judges making the laws, but appointed bureaucrats??

  2. ReasonableCitizen Says:

What could the state of Wisconsin do to prevent more federal creep into state affairs and into people’s lives? Montana is drafting legislation that essentially exempts guns made in Montana from federal regulation.
    Thoughts? Where should Wisconsin begin?

  3. John Smith Says:

Has anyone noticed the increase in tickets being handed out. Case in point, my neighbor was taking his kids to a community event, apparently there was a no-through sign on the street, local traffic only. If you weren’t going through, but to the local event, which was a half block up, is that considered through. The sign is put up so people use a different road to get the the other side, but local businesses and functions are to be completely shut down, or make it a police funding event, tickets for all!

Anyways, it looked like if you had a nice car, you got a $160 ticket + 3 points, crappy car = warning.

Barney Fife harassing the people that participate in the community - could have simply re-directed traffic.

    RE: Reasonable Citizen

As long as Doyle is in charge, he will welcome federal intervention in state affairs so the point is moot.

  5. Clint Says:

    Swine Flu Question

Why isn’t anyone (that I am reading anyway) bringing up the link between the swine flu in the US and the illegal Mexican immigrant population?

If the US had reasonable border control, how bad would the outbreak have been?

  6. jodster Says:

and they are cancelling a whole bunch of gatherings, but allowing the illegals hold their marches today.

  7. John Smith Says:

Yes, please identify the illegals today, put them on a bus and drop them off accross the boarder.

  8. John Smith Says:

Correction, not police, but Racine Sheriff.

So, they send the sheriffs office out to sting a community event. Had Mr. Flo__s been part of the community, he would have directed traffic instead trying to bend them over.

Someone needs oath training again, what is his purpose, who is he trying to help, not screw or bend over.

Mr. Flo__s is a community wrecker.

  9. Patrick Dorwin Says:

Heather, there are several unelected/unaccountable “boards” that have taxing authority, think Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Milwaukee Area Technical College, Wisconsin Center District to name a few… So much for “No taxation without representation,” huh?

  10. Dave_Sheboygan Says:

The West Bend Library Board and West Bend Mayor have decided that protecting our minor children from pornographic books is not very important.

A large part of the West Bend community would like to move the books with sexual explicit material to a section that would need parental concent. This has received MAJOR opposition from a number of alderman, the mayor and the library board. They claim it’s a violation of free speech, when in fact it is about protecting the children…all children.

At a recent meeting a number of library board members were not approved and still the mayor wants this topic revisited. Although the constituants have all ready spoken.

It’s a shame we can not trust our libraries to protect the innocent minds of young people.

This topic affects all of Washington County and its libraries.

  12. Mr. Pelican Pants Says:

I don’t know about anyone else out there - and perhaps I’m going out on a limb here - but I certainly do like casserole.

  13. Callahan Says:

    Remember…………Sullivan, Plale and Carpenter.

  14. HeatherRadish Says:

Patrick, wow. I wish I’d known all that last week when I got in a fight about “teabaggers” being “whiners” who “aren’t actually subjected to unfair taxation.”

  15. Patrick Dorwin Says:

My garage door blew a spring the other day, making opening the garage door a PITA, so I have a project for today. Hopefully the lawn will dry enough so I can cut it today or tomorrow.

And that grill and picnic table I bought like three weeks ago but haven’t had a chance to use because of the wonderful weather… I’m going to fire up that grill, even if I don’t cook anything today

  16. Clint Says:

    re: Mr. Pelican Pants

I too enjoy a good casserole. But my better half absolutely can’t stand them. So I don’t have them very often.

  17. Patrick Dorwin Says:

Holy #&@%! a 50-1 shot won the Kentucky Derby!

That win just got Jim Doyle, Mark Belling’s vote (see #8)

  18. TerryN Says:

Was at DFW this morning and a 13-14 Y.O. hip-hopper sat near me. A rather large African American county cop approached him and asked him his name. At first the kid wouldn’t answer and asked why he was being hassled. The cop said, “I’m not hassling you, I need to know your name”. The kid gave him a name and the cop opened up a wallet he was holding and said, “that’s not the name on this ID but the picture looks like you”. He then handed the kid his wallet, which was apparently left at the security checkpoint. The cop then asked the kid why he was hassling him and walked away. The kid didn’t even say thanks.

  19. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

Terry, the kid was just lucky you were sitting near him.

Patrick, Belling will probably say he was just making an Obama “campaign pledge”.

  20. Ron Says:

Belling will say his hair was crossed. At least we won’t have to listen to his equestrian errata any more.

  21. WalterSobczak Says:

    Release of Enhanced Interrogation Memo

The Republican response to the memo regarding detainee interrogation cites the national security interests that have been compromised by their release. Specifically they tell the terrorists exactly how far we are willing to go with the interrogation, and therefore, what they need to train for to resist it.

While I agree that this does compromise our national security to some degree, I think a larger point is being missed. By the politicizing of the work of the clandestine services, we are telling our men and women in covert operations that if they stick their necks out, there will be no cover if the results are unpopular. The men and women of the CIA, NSA, and other TLAs are on the front lines of the war that we never get to hear about, risking every bit as much as a soldier in the Military. Yet when we ask them to do their job, and they do, we are trying to criminalize them, rather then give them medals.
Over the weekend, Drudge reported on ABC’s outing of the two psychologists who were responsible for masterminding the interrogations of KSM and Abu Zubaydah. By the way — ABC called for Bush’s impeachment over the outing of Valerie Plame’s identity. The termed it an “abuse of power”.

For the men who successfully prevented more terror attacks, there will be no parades, no cheering crowds, no recognition of the work that has protected the lives of countless Americans. Furthermore, they took on the job knowing this. They weren’t in it for the medals, money, or recognition.

To hell with the soapbox liberal morality coming from those who would be so quick to throw these heroes under the Prius. Their message is clear - defend the USA, and you will find yourself prosecuted. If I were a spook, I’d be looking for a desk job about now….

  22. TerryN Says:

Well I would expect the kid to give him his name and ask why he wanted it. It’s a different world today. Right Glenn?
