As pointed out by Patrick, the health care debate debacle is definitely one reason Obama may be losing these folks. Another reason is that Obama’s base of support is out there re-opening old wounds for no other purpose than to demoralize their fellow Americans and weaken their pride in their country.

You will see in the comments section of Michael Mathias’ post, that twice I asked him the simple question of “WHY” he was going over this bit of history. Twice did Mathias ignore that question by merely summarizing “WHAT” he was doing. Evasion #1: “…my point here is to talk about what the US did.” Evasion #2: “My purpose now is to remind people that the anniversary of these events is now.”

What you won’t see is, as of the time that I write this, my third attempt at asking “WHY” in the same respectful tone as the first two questions. It appears that my third submission was either deleted or is stuck in moderation. Either way, Mr. Mathias is sly enough not to be backed into a corner. Demoralizing your fellow Americans is a risky undertaking. When it is your primary goal, you can’t just come right out and admit that.

Some of you may be wondering “why” I’m posting about this. Afterall, Mathias is a fairly obscure Leftist blogger who more often than not scores a goose-egg in the comments section. I think people need to see who occupies the base of Obama’s support. It can’t hurt those of you on the Right to be reminded what we’re up against. More importantly, those of you who supported Obama because he claimed to stand for a new kind of politics, you too need to see with whom you are joining sides. It’s not new…it’s just further to the Left than we’ve seen in a long time. Tactics like Mathias’ make it clear that we are headed for, if not already in, a civil war for the hearts and minds of our own people.

He may be losing it, but there are people I have talked to that say this debacle may pass in some way, shape, or form so that Obamanation can blast out in a news clip what he has accomplished. I hope this is NOT the case as the bill is the worst thing yet for America. The bigger government gets, the more power it usurps from its citizens. It becomes a corrupt angry BEAST that must be slain in order for liberty to remain. Today, as history always seems to repeat itself, we are repeating the period around 1933 when the “Great White Father” proposed starting new bureaus, hiring a huge number of bureaucrats, started the social security dialogue, and called in all the gold. Things are a lot different today with the mass communication of the Internet, so hopefully Obamanation can be stopped. Herbert Hoover was an honest engineer, but has been blamed by the leftists for the crash of ’29. However, Bush is largely to blame for todays crisis because of his NO VETO record. He kow-towed to Israel, dishing out billions in foreign aid, spent like a drunken sailor, got us into a phony war that had been planned prior, and because of all this, many conservatives couldn’t wait for him to go. McCain was an insult. The result; Obamanation! We need more Libertarians to run in upcoming elections. The money sent to the major two parties from special interest is huge, but if Jesse Ventura can do it, we can do it!

re the a-bomb, there is one fact which is passed over: the Japs back-channeled an offer of surrender through Uncle Joe Stalin.

Big mistake-Stalin buried it, hoping that the US would utterly crush Japan, leaving Stalin’s position in Sakhalin very secure.

I still have trouble, though, with the “end justifies the means” argument-that nuking Japan prevented millions of deaths. We certainly do not KNOW that ‘it prevented millions…’; as a result, the argument is at best shaky.

I don’t know how many American deaths it prevented, that’s all that matters to me.
But I do know that the US Government minted 500,000 Purple Hearts in 1945,the same ones being awarded today.
Jesse Ventura needs Prozac. If you want to read about a real war hero of the GWOT, google Marcus Luttrell.

    Another thing passed over…

It was well known that most industrialized countries were researching nuclear weaponry, and Japan was no different. Six days after V-E day a German u-boat surrendered to an American destroyer off the coast of Newfoundland. It’s cargo held various technical trinkets bound for Germany’s Asian ally, including 550 kilos of uranium oxide. This discovery was classified for many many years.

I believe this discovery, along with the estimated body counts for Operation Downfall produced by various US military personnel, easily tipped Truman’s decision to drop Little Boy and Fat Man, even though in hindsight the uranium might not have been weapon grade.

FWIW, the Navy Dpt. estimated between 1.7 and 4 million American Op.Downfall casualties, with 400k-800k deaths. It also estimated 10 million Japanese casualties. The JCS estimated 500k American casualties/100k deaths just for the landing at Kyushu)

I am going to go the Devils advocate route here, and please note that these are not my actual feelings just an observation that has been banging around in my head.

Obama doesn’t need the “Older Generation” to get what he wants.

He needs the Younger Generation-(the 18-25 year old crowd) The ones who will blindly follow whatever Obama says is best for the country.

The crowd that thus far in life have had OTHER people telling them what to say, do or think.

Because after all this age group is now just coming away from Mommy and Daddy control and are also just coming out of college and have typically no idea how to think for themselves because they have never had to.

If Obama can convince that crowd that single payer
Health is the way to go, he has this all wrapped up.

Its just a matter of him and the Democrats pandering to the age group that got him elected.

Obama and the rest of the Democrats could care less what the older generation wants, they are only pretending to be interested in their viewpoints, after all odds are a good portion of them won’t be around in 2012 to vote anyway.

    Why should their voices count?

  10. dad29 Says:

Well, Mike, Obama may need the <25 generation, but that doesn’t mean he has them.

The focus will go to “Deficit/Debt” soon, if the (R) machine has any brains (a big “if”, I know,) and that should begin to neutralize the <25 crowd.

  11. Michael J. Cheaney Says:

It appears to me that he does have them though dad, After all he is in office….

And the Debt/Deficit may mean more to us since we actually have to pay taxes, doesn’t mean squat to them since they are just starting out and have yet to pay any.

They just see Washington as having an endless pool of money to spend on social programs, and have yet to realize that this “endless pool” comes from us.

    The Taxpayers.

And God i hope your right about the focus shifting to debt/deficit!

  12. Joyce Says:

Hey Mike. He may have the <25 clueless now, but once they start waking up to the fact that they’ll be in debt and servitude for the rest of their natural lives, with no upward mobility for most of them… think he’ll have them then?

  13. Michael J. Cheaney Says:

    Joyce:

Thats exactly my point. By the time they do wake up, the damage will already have been done, and there will be that can be done to reverse the damage.

THAT is what the Obama camp is counting on.

    Government dependence for all.

  14. HeatherRadish Says:

but once they start waking up to the fact that they’ll be in debt and servitude for the rest of their natural lives, with no upward mobility for most of them

I’m not sure they will think this is a bad thing. “No upward mobility” also means “big comfy hammock for un-achievers.” There’s no reward for success, but there’s no penalty for weak effort-you get the same bus system and “free” health care as the people who take risks and stay late.

Don’t forget this generation went through an educational system that gave every team a trophy, and told teachers not to mark assignments down for grammar and spelling because that might hurt their feelings.

I’m not even sure “government health care will kill your parents” will resonate the way it does with us-their whole lives they’ve been told they’re the most important people in the universe, and now they’re watching their parents struggle with taking care of aged parents instead of spending that time and money on them…

We all know exceptions, of course, but those of us with parents or grandparents who experienced the Depression or WWII as adults (my father’s stories of the Carter years made a big impact on me as well) shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking today’s young people share our perspectives on freedom and success. To paraphrase Mark Steyn, they think “freedom” means a million songs on iTunes and “oppression” means hearing someone speak critically of Al Gore or gay marriage.

This scares the hell out of me.

  15. John Smith Says:

dad29 “We certainly do not KNOW that ‘it prevented millions…’;”

In a single Battle of Okinawa ~150,000 dead as a door knob. More than killed by both the nuc’s. ~65million dead total in world war for freedom. Jap’s committing suicide for Emperor.

And all we ever hear about is bad nuc’s and the poor Jap’s that were trying to kill everyone. We certainly KNOW that the nuc’s saved millions of lives (their lives included), one only has to look, be able to count, and be able to read history.

This is after all why its very important to get your kids to school with lunch in hand. 49% truancy rate in Milwaukee is a tragedy. 19,000 kids per year outcast, fooled by Dems that they deserve more, when they all they really need is to get to school, get educated, think for themselves.
