Apparently sending out letters to union members, urging them to lean on specific members of the Milwaukee County Board to “see things their way” didn’t work out the way AFSCME District Council 48 hoped it would.

In a surprising 11-6 vote late this morning, the board shot down its tentative contract with the union, a move that sets the stage for either union concessions or protracted arbitration.

The Journal / Sentinel reports:

“County Board Chairman Lee Holloway said he hoped that the union would agree to soon reopen contract negotiations and consider employee givebacks.

“Hopefully the union will work with us,” Holloway said. He supports labor, but the county’s financial problems are so deep that employee concessions have to be part of the 2010 budget solution, Holloway said.”

Classy letter from AFSCME. “Tell him to stop pimping for the rich” ????

It’s actually not that surprising. They didn’t have the votes for a veto override, so instead of letting Walker have the “win” of stopping the contract, they let it die this way.

Before the usual suspects start yelling about Walker negotiating in bad faith, remember the Personnel Committee of the County Board is given the SOLE authority to negotiate these contracts under County Ordinance.

    Yes AFSCME, that’s CRAPPERS outfit.
Maybe he went down and hit Lee Holloway with his purse. Then offered him some Social Worker counseling.
