Milwaukee County First, a Milwaukee-based non-profit we’ve been tracking here at Badger Blogger has shown time and again that it really isn’t about what it says it’s about. Some of the most interesting, and telling, commentary is what you find when MC(E)F’s leaders speak outside of their organization’s official blog.

MC(E)F plopped onto the Milwaukee blogosphere in mid-July 2009, headed up by a fella named Chris Liebenthal as it’s “Chairman.” Liebenthal blogs regularly under the alias of “capper” at this blog…and this blog…and this blog.
Liebenthal, a card-carrying member of AFSCME, clearly started this MC(E)F as yet another venue for waging his anti-Scott Walker campaign. While not an overt part of MC(E)F’s mission statement, the true agenda was well documented by Aaron Rodriguez, Cindy Kilkenny and this conservative wingnut.
There is no doubt that a Walker-Doyle fight would have been a hard fought one. Not having this battle wage on for the next year doesn’t mean MC(E)F is without capacity to damage the quality of life for anyone and everyone who isn’t an AFSCME member. Case in point…one of MC(E)F’s stated goals: “…to make Milwaukee County a first-class economic and social region for the State of Wisconsin and the entire Midwest.”
One reads that and thinks that at least MC(E)F realizes that Milwaukee County’s success is tied to its economic health. Then you read the rantings of its MC(E)F’s official spokesperson, Keith Schmitz, who poo-poos the notion of governmental fiscal responsibility:
Yepper!! So long as you money-grubbing capitalists out there have a buck in your pocket, guys like Keith, Chris and the rest of the “looters” will advocate their right to confiscate it from you. I’d like to say that this toxic view is held by a minority in this State, but I’ve seen no evidence of that as reflected in our elected officials…from Diamond Jim Doyle to Downtown Tom Barrett. While I hope that a Scott Walker win in the governor’s race will mean better times for Wisconsin, I fear that the like-minded looters in Milwaukee County government will run amok after Walker leaves.

Almost forgot this one:
Chris Liebenthal also blogs here. Eight out of ten posts on that blog’s first page attacked Scott Walker. One of the remaining two was a cross-promotion to Milwaukee County (Employees) First, where he echoes much of the same.
Last but not least, he makes a comment that is so contradictory in tone and content to all the other anti-Walker/Milwaukee-County’s-In-Trouble rhetoric flooding his numerous blogs, I can’t help but wonder if someone else posted under his name.
Is this a case of Dissociative Identity Disorder? Either that or he had to make nice-nice because this post was distributed for public consumption elsewhere…and because he believes in Milwaukee County Employees First.
