Milwaukee Mayor, Tom Barrett, the most reluctant candidate I have ever seen, has decided that he will run for Governor Jim Doyle’s 3rd term.

Barrett says he’s healed, ready to run for governor

So the man who, as a state legislator voted for the largest state tax increase and while in congress, voted for the largest federal tax increases in history, then increasing taxes in every budget he has had as mayor of Milwaukee, now wants to be governor. This is also the guy that thinks counties around Milwaukee should be taxed so Milwaukee can have a choo-choo, perhapse as Governor, he could tax every county so he can have choo-choos where ever he wants. If elected, he would probably like a Milwaukee to Madison choo-choo, since he is already making noise about not spending much time in Mad-Town if elected.

Barrett is already feeling heat from his Left, the folks that are trying to keep the failing Milwaukee Public School System in the gutters, are already looking for someone to attack Barrett from the Left. Barrett isn’t the only Liberal being attacked because they aren’t Liberal enough on MPS. It’s so much fun to watch Libs eating their own :-)

A few facts:

  • In 1991 as a state senator, Barrett voted for the biggest increase in Wisconsin history to hike taxes an additional $856 million.
  • In 1993 as a congressman, Barrett voted for the largest tax increase in federal history to hike taxes by $241 billion.
  • In congress, Barrett voted against almost every effort to relieve taxes, including efforts to reduce and repeal the marriage penalty and death tax.
  • Barrett has raised tax and fees in EVERY budget he’s presented since being elected mayor, including this year’s 4.4% hike to the property tax levy.

Interesting change in Barrett’s prepared statement:

Barrett makes it official: He’s running for governor
As he delivered prepared remarks, Barrett made one potentially significant deviation from the text distributed to reporters. When he came to a line that originally read, “Our families and businesses want state tax increases to stop,” he changed it to: “Our families and businesses want fair taxes.”

So even though he was supposed to say people want “tax increases to stop”, he couldn’t bring himself to say it… To the tax & spend addicted Liberal mind, tax hikes are “fair”. Thanks for clearing that up Tom.

To a liberal Democrat “fair taxes” have a really confiscatory definition to those of us who work for a living. Check out how our “bower in chief” views taxes that are fair: they redistribute wealth!

Leftists gravitate towards working in the public sector because it’s an area where incompetence and laziness is not only protected, but oftentimes rewarded.

Because of this unfortunate situation, leftists seldom feel the effects of the solutions and policies they put forth, being somewhat immune from unintended consequences they inflict the real world of the private sector with.

So “fair taxes” for a leftist is any amount they deem necessary to put their fantasy based academic philosophies and social engineering experiments into practice.

It’s essentially the child in the store who wants a toy, and refuses to accept being told no.

This evening, my friend Chris from Racine posted a quote from Winston Churchill:

A nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.

Well, that made me wonder of maybe that’s how Tom Barrett really hurt his hand?

(Some Liberal will jump on my insensitivity in 5… 4… 3…)

  5. Duke Says:

I wouldn’t be too concerned about the libs calling you insensitive. I’d be more concerned about the judgement of the person who was seriously damaged by bringing a knife to a gunfight - or in this case knuckles to a tire-iron fight.

What are the chances this guy, if elected Governor, would support our Constitutional right to bear arms; why wouldn’t he have had the foresight to protect himself and his family by just putting a small pepper-sprayer in his pocket? Most sane people would have ‘gone to school’ following a traumatic incident like Barrett experienced, and become a real believer in the 2nd Amendment. Any guesses where he’ll come down on the issue?

Of course Barrett would have taxpayer supported security guards as the Guv, which still leaves us mostly undefended.

Scott Walker, on the other hand, has already clearly laid out his views on our right to defend ourselves.

  6. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

Scott Walker will easily defeat Tom Barrett and even Barrett knows it. Listen to the two of them and it’s easy to determine who speaks with a voice of confidence - not to even mention who has demonstrated leadership abilities.

  7. Patrick Dorwin Says:

For those outside of Milwaukee that think these two guys are just alike because they are both coming from Milwaukee, let’s look at a few facts, then ask your self who is more like you.

When Scott Walker goes to work, he drives himself in a 10 year old Saturn with a stick shift and no A/C. Tom Barrett on the other hand, is picked up by a Milwaukee police officer, whose job is to pick Barrett up at his home in an unmarked squad car and drive him anywhere he wants to go.

Scott Walker is a hunter. He believes that Wisconsin citizens should be able to own and carry guns for self defense. Walker supports the 2nd Amendment. Tom Barrett opposes your right to keep & bear arms. He does not think that law abiding citizens should be allowed to protect themselves, and he will treat you as a common criminal if you use a gun to protect your self. Guns cause crime, in Barrett’s way of thinking.

Scott Walker thinks your taxes are already to high and government spends to much of our money inefficiently. Tom Barrett thinks government needs to spend even more, and the way to get more money for the government is from the people that work hard for a living.

Scott Walker fought against and defeated a wheel tax for Milwaukee County. Tom Barrett supported, and now has in place a $20 per car wheel tax, so everyone that owns a car and lives in the city of Milwaukee must now pay an extra $20 per vehicle. How long to you think it will take for Barrett to implement a wheel tax for the entire state?

Scott Walker has spent his political career fighting tax hikes, Barrett has voted for some of the largest tax increases in state and American history. he continues to raise taxes and “fees” on Milwaukee residents, including the current city budget.

Who lines up closer with the average Wisconsin citizen?
