FACT: The position of Milwaukee County Executive has a salary set at just under $130,000.

FACT: Since he took office eight years ago, Scott Walker has never been paid his full salary as MilCoExec.

BACKGROUND: Scott Walker came to the Milwaukee County Executive position around 2002 on the heels of tremendous financial scandal. His predecessor and his predecessor’s co-conspirators orchestrated pension payouts and buyouts totaling millions of dollars. A ridiculously costly scheme for which Milwaukee County, by law, still has to pay.

For the first six years in office, Walker took a voluntary 50% pay-cut out of his $130k annual salary, thereby putting Milwaukee County ahead by $360,000. To keep Milwaukee County taxpayer’s heads above water, serious belt tightening would be in order. Walker knew he would be making tough budgetary decisions that would call for his employees to sacrifice. Did Walker put his money where his mouth was? You bet. In addition, Walker paid income tax on the full salary amount. Such personal sacrifice was the rule until 2008, when Walker elected to give back about $10,000 per year which is still a larger figure than those faced with furloughs.

You wouldn’t get that whole history if you tapped in to the propaganda pipeline of one Cory Liebmann. He runs a blog that is all about generating pro-Liberal talking points. Unlike dozens of other Wisconsin blogs out there, he doesn’t mix political business with much, if any, personal stuff. He’s yet another mercenary for the Left whose resume includes time spent with the juggernaut of liberal talking points, One Wisconsin Now.

This bit of utterly dishonest hackery appeared on the Wisconsin blogosphere last October. As you read that, Cory would have you believe that Scott Walker, the dastardly villain that he is, just decided to raise his own salary from $69k to $120k. He fails to mention, quite intentionally I’m sure, that Walker was legally entitled to close to $130,000 in salary per year; a figure that is commensurate with other executive level positions in Wisconsin. Milwaukee’s mayor makes about $145,000. Milwaukee’s police chief makes about $140-144k. As a matter of fact, according to a 2007 audit requested by Milwaukee County Board Chairman Lee Holloway, the $130k amount for the MilCoExec position is well below the survey average of $184,000. Should Walker some day decide to pay himself his full salary he would still make much less than comparable county executives.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett never made such a gesture…never showed that he was concerned with Milwaukee’s tax burden. He’s weak on this issue, so guys like Liebmann dismiss Walker’s self-imposed pay cut as a gimmick rather than a standard to which Barrett should be held. So, despite Liebmann’s admission that “He [Walker] never put an end-date on that promise…,” somehow Walker is guilty of something. In Liebmann’s world, Scott Walker said he’d take a 50% pay cut, so he’s stuck with it for life.

This same dishonest talking point re-surfaced a couple weeks ago. This time Liebmann wanted to use it as a criticism against CRG. Apparently, he thinks that CRG should criticize Walker for giving almost $400,000 back to the taxpayers of MilCo…because, you know…that’s irresponsible and a group called Citizens for Responsible Government should really oppose such a thing.

Cory Liebmann doesn’t want people thinking about this one. In classic Liberal style, he expects the populace to be uninformed and willing to consume whatever pap he chooses to feed them.

I say, if you don’t believe the LIEbmannS of the world….deal with it.
