The Milwaukee Teachers Education Association (MTEA), the teachers union of Milwaukee’s public school teachers. just can’t get enough from taxpayers. Even though the average MPS teacher makes more than $100,000 in pay & benefits, they want us to pay because they can’t get it up…

Despite Budget Cuts, Layoff Fears, Milwaukee Teachers Fight for Taxpayer-Funded Viagra
With the district in a financial crisis and hundreds of its members facing layoffs, the Milwaukee teachers union is taking a peculiar stand: fighting to get their taxpayer-funded Viagra back.

The union has asked a judge to order the school board to again include Pfizer Inc.’s erectile dysfunction drug and similar pills in its health insurance plans.

[...]

At least one lawmaker questioned why the union is fighting for Viagra while teachers are losing their jobs. A consultant for the school board has estimated that reinstating the drug benefit would cost $786,000 per year — the cost to keep perhaps a dozen first-year teachers employed.

And they wonder why we don’t take them seriously.

  1. J. Rawson Schaller Says:

    I think they need to name their campaign, to help garner some public support.

    Something like “Hard-ons for Has-beens,” or “Bulges for Bullocks.”

  2. Roland_Melnick Says:

    We should take them seriously…and call them out at every turn. Yeah this is funny…(Zach W: “Roland, I am appalled. [huffy exhale] Are you making fun of the erectionally challenged?”)…but it demonstrates how this municipal union has the whole State in a headlock.

    After the momentary chuckle wears off, realize that despite having a tough economy…housing values tanking while property taxes are rising while people are taking pay cuts or outright job loss…public sector unions like MTEA get more and more. They believe they should be immune from the sacrifices and belt-tightening most of the rest of the work force have to deal with.

    For example…how many of you non-MTEA workers out there have zero co-pay on your medical insurance? How many have ALL of their fertility treatments and procedures covered? Those are large expenses rarely covered completely across 99% of the workforce. Most insurance programs cover diagnostics, but after that things like IVF ($15000 or more), hormone therapy ($1000′s) or artificial insemination ($4000-$10000) are commonly paid for by the individual.

    Add that to the summers and all holidays off. Keep all this mind the next time you see one of these union zombies complaining about having a tough job while they claim to be fighting for the kids. They’re out for themselves.

  3. Jaeson Says:

    It’s not surprising really thatthe Teacher’s Union is limp and impotent.

  4. stalker3 Says:

    But it’s for the children…

  5. stalker3 Says:

    Mr. Bullock:
    Your response?

  6. HeatherRadish Says:

    If only I’d stayed in school and gotten a useless PhD instead of earning a living…I could apply for a million-dollar federal science/education grant to research the effect on student learning of teachers getting laid. Wait, make that two million-if spouses are eligible for this fabulous insurance, I’ll need to survey the scholastic achievements of in the female students’ classrooms, as well.

    The analysis of the data will yield no conclusion about the actual children, but indicate a need for further grants.

  7. HeatherRadish Says:

    (Er, female teachers’ classrooms. Then again, some of the teachers really could be wanting Viagra for their students. You never know.)

  8. MjM Says:

    But it’s for the children…

    Don’tcha mean future children? heh.

    I’ve always felt that if “it” ain’t working any more it’s just the culling the herd, survival of the fittest, natural selection, etc. etc.. I think that shoe fits very well in this situation, if you catch my meaning.

    According to MTEA’s web site(*) there are 8222 members:

    * Teachers - 6,000 members
    * Educational Assistants - 1,700 members
    * Substitute Teachers - 500 members
    * Accountants and Bookeepers - 22 members

    I don’t know the breakdown but, from long ago experience I’d guess 30%, or roughly 2446, are men.

    And the article says, “By 2004, the number of claimants receiving prescriptions skyrocketed to more than 1,000 per year…”.

    Meaning, almost half of MPS male teachers are dickless.

    Yes, I realize some teacher wives may have been bringing home for their hapless hubbies, but some thing is very fishy.

    (*) The list is a direct Cut&Paste from MTEA’s site, note the misspelling of ‘Bookkeepers’: http://www.mtea.org/Aboutus/FactSheet.nws

  9. folkbum Says:

    Look, this is a hard story to comment on, but I think it’s nothing to get up about. The growth in prescriptions is among the swelling ranks of the retired, not active teachers.

    I know there’s stiff opposition to this claim, but the thrust of it is equality.

  10. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

    This is just their way of identifying with the working stiffs.

  11. J. Rawson Schaller Says:

    Jay, truth be told, and this is the god’s honest truth, we deleted that because we didn’t see any way on earth you had ever actually posted that. We figured it was going to turn out to be someone pretending to be you. In keeping with the subject matter, we were probably a bit premature.

    Odd part is that it was actually funny. It was creative, and in no way blamed George W. Bush for certain male MPS teachers’ sponginess. Pained us to delete it.

    If you can get “up” for recreating it, we won’t tamper with it again.

    See, what we need here is a secret word. Something where we say “Jay, is that really you?” And you respond with the secret word, and all is well.

  12. TerryN Says:

    MPS screws the taxpayers every way they can. Even if they have to use Viagra.

  13. Roland_Melnick Says:

    “Better boners make better teachers” or is it “Better teachers make better boners”???

    Meanwhile…

    Folkbum celebrates

  14. HeatherRadish Says:

    The growth in prescriptions is among the swelling ranks of the retired, not active teachers.

    …so it’s not going to do anything to improve math proficiency among 8th graders.

  15. J. Rawson Schaller Says:

    I can’t figure it out, Roland. Every time I turn around, Alton Brown from “Good Eats” is everywhere. Your picture is just further proof.

    You can’t get away from the guy. He’s like the new Rachel Ray.

  16. J. Rawson Schaller Says:

    So it’s the retired teachers who have nothing better to do with their time than worry about whether they can perform, when their “time is right?” Two thoughts:

    1) Maybe we should consider backing the MPS retirement age (55?) up a tad, and;

    2) My poor grandfather. All he wanted to do after retirement was solder together Jesus in stained glass.

  17. Roland_Melnick Says:

    I don’t have a problem with their retirees, or anyone else for that matter, engaging their frisky side. I have a problem with their “co-pays are for suckers” entitlement mentality.

  18. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

    “Won’t be long now” said the Rabbi as he rounded Steven’s Point.

  19. PCD Says:

    oh, those poor Milwaukee teachers! They get so tired screwing the students and the taxpayers at the same time.

  20. stalker3 Says:

    Wow. Folkbum actually made me laugh. Quite the witty play on words.
    I guess it’s pretty bad when even he won’t defend this.

  21. jay Says:

    I think it’s bad policy to go around deleting comments. Sometimes something is offensive and maybe deleting the offending word would be appropriate but in general I would default to letting the offending comment stand. Condemn it but let everyone know that the commenter has said something offensive and why it’s offensive.

    Recently, you had a poster by the screen name of J.Bavet. Somehow every post of his ended up blaming the Jews for something. I found that offensive, but, I felt it was much more instructive just to have him explain himself than to have him banned or have his comments deleted.

    Folkbum’s comments should stand. Often they should be ridiculed. However, they should stand. This time his comment about an unfathomable position was actually funny.

    If you are wondering if it’s him post the question on his blog and beneath his comment on yours.

  22. J. Rawson Schaller Says:

    Jay, you need to understand something. There’s a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes here that you are not privy to.

    We don’t make a practice of deleting a comment, any comment, unless it is just remarkably profane or “way over the top.”

    There were things about that comment which YOU don’t see that led me to believe that it was someone pretending to be Folkbum, not Folkbum himself.

    I have apologized to Folkbum, on and off the board. This is not a practice around here. I was trying to save him embarrassment, had he not actually posted that. Perhaps I was overly ambitious in my comment policing.

  23. Bruce Says:

    It must be a Saturday in August. They devoted ten minutes of debate to this topic this afternoon on Fox.

    At first, it was mostly gentle probing, but by the end of the segment, they had deeply penetrated the issue.

  24. Paul Says:

    Jay’s in full box-of-Kleenex cry mode this afternoon, claiming the district is negotiating in bad faith and the Viagra is a diversion.

    Public unions and their legacy costs are the greatest threat to local government solvency, and these tone-deaf idiots cry for more when everything else is being pared back. I for one am glad there’s a growing backlash against parasitic public unions.

  25. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

    Jay, some people have just come to BB to provoke others and to distract everyone from the topic posted. As one of the moderators, I’m not going to stand by and let those people do that. I’ve had it with their Saul Alinsky tactics and intend to deal with them accordingly. They hide behind their keyboards and say things from the privacy of wherever they reside that they’d never say to someone’s face. These people think nothing of hurling insults here and on their own lefty blogs, but they cry and whine like little girls when somebody retaliates. Awhile back we accommodated one of them when he asked us to censor the word “libtard”. This guy showed (and continues to show) his appreciation by insulting Badger Blogger on his own blog often. If/when any one of them chooses to engage us in any kind of intelligent debate, then I will leave those comments stand. If they want to try to come here for no purpose other than to provoke or change the topic or engage in blasphemy (as tim was prone to do), then they will be sent to the trash where they belong whenever any such comments come to my attention.

    I will add this. Occasionally we post humorous topics, or at least topics which lend themselves to humor such as this one. As far as I’m concerned, there’s a lot more latitude in such posts so long as it doesn’t degenerate into something depraved or perverted.

    Fearing a return to sexual duty, wives of Milwaukee teachers union urges court to deny Viagra claim

    MADISON, Wis. – A coalition of wives of the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association (MTEA) has filed an amicus curiae in the ridiculous civil suit brought by the MTEA against the Milwaukee School District (MSD). In the suit, the MTEA makes the heinous claim that a recreational lifestyle drug should come before the employment of some its own members.

    But the wives aren’t entering the fray over any concern for the proletariat downtrodden. Instead, they fear that arousing their husbands from their slumber of impotence could mark an end to a period of blissfully platonic inactivity that began in 2005 when an arbitrator agreed that MPS didn’t have to provide free Viagra to the union …

    This is what happens when you live in the age where the President of the United States can hire sociopaths, such Safe School Czar and supporter of pedophilia, Kevin Jennings.

    [...] This guy wants access to our State budget? Anyone think Larson will be anything but a yes vote for anything and everything MTEA wants, including “Viva Viagra?” [...]
