Expectations are high for Republicans tomorrow. Some say too high. Some say they are over-confident. Based on the polls alone…it will definitely be the GOP that rules the day. If the punditry is proven right…it won’t be because it was easy.
Don’t discount the Democrats. They are good at mobilizing voters. They will literally club their peers over the head and drag them to the polling places. To borrow a phrase from Barack Obama, Democrats are “bitterly clinging” to their power. Having been in control since 2006…with complete control starting January 2009…the Democrats have run this country into the ground, yet their base is still rather motivated.
There are a couple candidates who haven’t gotten enough attention. Speaking on a national perspective, the media once again shows its true colors when it prefers to focus on the less than perfect Christine O’Donnell while a rising star and one of the purist examples of what the TEA Party Movement is all about, Ron Johnson, gets very little play. He’s gotten plenty of attention here in Wisconsin however, and he is likely to win tomorrow so I don’t have anything to add at this time.
Another is Dan Sebring, who is running against Gwen Moore. I’ve met Dan. From what I’ve learned about him, he’s an industrious fellow. I wish him well. I donated to his campaign and I will vote for him. What few ads I’ve seen/heard seem to have been done well, but he just hasn’t gotten enough backing. Even with the national trends in his favor, I think he needs more to defeat Moore and her established political machine.
I do have a few comments on Jess Ripp, a solid candidate running against Chris “The Thief” Larson for Wisconsin State Senate. Steve over at No Runny Eggs has an interview with Ripp. Third Coast Digest also ran an interview of Jess Ripp. I encourage anyone living in the Wisconsin 7th State Senate District to check them out and realize Ripp deserves your vote.
By contrast, Larson defeated a more moderate Jeff Plale in the Democrat primary. Larson is the darling of the teachers and some public sector employees’ unions all of which have dumped a lot of money into getting Larson where he is today. Larson is THE WORST choice to consider in today’s economic climate. At a time where many on the Left have moderated their positions, Larson has doubled down on uber-Left dogma. He opposes any cuts or freezes to teacher salaries. He opposes any freezes or cuts in teacher benefits. He opposes any increase in teacher contributions to pension funds. He is completely in favor of doing anything to keep the public sector gravy train going...including a dedicated sales tax to add to the pile of money thrown at teachers! In addition to this direct assault on our wallets, anyone capable of spinning a yarn like this:
“Larson understands that roads and transit go together and 40,000 jobs that are currently unreachable due to a lack of vehicles or drivers licenses are best served by a vigorous transit system.”
…shows signs of being a seasoned career politician of the flavor that has motivated the nationwide backlash against Democrats. Larson’s tax, tax and more tax agenda…no thanks. I only hope enough reasonable voters exist in the Wisconsin 7th to send Larson packing, but I fear that his bold platform may do better than the tail-between-the-legs images of Tom Barrett and Russ Feingold.
Don’t be fooled by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s endorsement of Scott Walker. I see their move as a carbon copy of Russ Feingold’s vote on the Patriot Act. Russ was free to play maverick by casting a completely meaningless vote when an outcome to the contrary was assured. All it did was give Russ an opportunity to grandstand. He didn’t achieve a thing. Along the same lines, the Journal-Sentinel endorsed Scott Walker only after countless polls indicated he was a strong front runner. The MJS didn’t endorse Walker 8 months ago. Why not? All of the things they claim made Walker their choice didn’t suddenly become reality two weeks ago. If they really supported Walker, they would have stood behind him months ago; allowing Walker the opportunity to run on that endorsement. An 11th hour show of support carries a fraction of that influence, but it does allow the MJS to make a shallow claim they are balanced. Anyone tracking their overall coverage knows better.
None of these races are a lock. Get out and VOTE!!

Gallup has a new poll showing a 15% lead in voters nationwide saying they are more likely to vote Republican than voters who say they will vote Democratic.

“It should be noted, however, that this year’s 15-point gap in favor of the Republican candidates among likely voters is unprecedented in Gallup polling and could result in the largest Republican margin in House voting in several generations.”
The lefty blogs should be very entertaining Wednesday.

The rhetoric will first and foremost be about the stupidity of American voters, which is just fine. They misread the American public at their own political risk.
