For the past two weeks or so, we have been hearing rumbles of a staph infection in the Milwaukee City Jail inside of the Police Administration Building. The latest word on this comes from out own milwhowie.
I am putting out a few emails tonight to see if I can get some comments from inside the administration and other places, I will keep you informed.

Thanks so much Patrick. My concern is that the PD personnel might have a liability suit against the City, the Health Dept., and the housekeeping staff at Admin. Bldg. I would think that any prisoners contracting the infection might have similar claims against the City of Milwaukee. Could cost the City millions down the road. If the infection is within the ventilation system in the building, the whole damn building could be infected. IF TRUE, I would think the infection issue is a huge hush-hush issue.

I haven’t been able to track down an email contact for the Health Department, so I will have to try to call down there. I also hope to hear back from MPD tomorrow morning.

There have been a lot of staph infections going around the U.S., including schools.
Milwaukee’s problem this year has been lead poisoning.
Hot lead.

MRSA is nothing new. My grandfather died with it three years ago, and even then it was prevelant. It cannot be spread through the air, but through contact.
The important things is to wash your hands at an almost obsessive-compulsive rate. Also keep all wounds, even minor scrapes covered.
It was most commonly found among the elderly and sick that were in hospitals and nursing homes, but it has been steadily spreading into the neighborhoods.
Really, it is rather nasty, especially for anyone who is already sick or elderly.

I’m Sorry about your grandfather Capper. God bless him.

Thank you for your kind words Mickey. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him.

Capper, your grandad will always be in my prayers. I mean that my brother. My grandad was SHOT and CAPTURED at EL ALEMEIN. My grandad… and that’s what we called him… “grandad”. Was a SCOT’S BLACK WATCH 40 something sign-up. He lived through ww2.
Capper, If you could send me a e-mail, I’d HONOR your grandad, vis a vis flowers.
Capper, your Grandfather should be honoured. I’d be honoured to help so.

Capper, send me info, and I’ll honour your fallen Grandpa. I promise friend.
Our forefathers deserve our love.

I have heard back from Annie Schwartz, the Public Relations Manager for the Milwaukee Police Department, and dismisses this claim as misinformation. So far this is the first response to my questions, I will be looking forward to other responses as well. If there are numbers of people taking ill because of this, it seems to me to me more than the normal level of infection you would expect at a facility like this.

Thanks again Patrick. My sources on the airborne staph infections are two police supervisory officers. They, of course, do not want to be identified. Neither works in the City Jail.

“There is a bit of a misinformation campaign out there regarding this”
Is there a campaign going on or is it someone just asking questions. Sounds she thinks people putting this stuff out there to be malicious.

Dan, (post #10) no “campaign” inferred nor intended. Priorities are 1) Officer safety, 2) deterring future civil lawsuits. What was I to do with the information I received from two MPD supervisors? Disregard it?? Nothing ‘malicious’ about my postings and Anne, if she knew who I am, would not use such a word. Replace ‘malicious’ with CONCERN in her statement!!

Staph infections run rampant at prisons, jails, etc. all the time. No one is going to make a big deal about it until an employee or high-profile inmate gets sick.
Those of us who work in germ-infested environments (like, say, the Courthouse Complex) often get sick and never quite know what it is. MRSA and other staph infections scare the poo out of me.:)

MRSA has been replaced in alot of places down south ( to my knowledge) by VRSA “vancomycin resistant staphlococcus aureas), the treatment is expensive and tenuous at best.
HOWEVER I have read of a variant of MRSA out of central America making its way into the US that CDC is calling the “superbug” .. and no it’s not the STD Clamiydia bug recently reported.

Sheriffe ‘Dapper Dave’ Clarke, when on the Milw. PD was labelled a ‘clothes horse’ by conservatively-clad Detective Bureau personnel. Well, nothing has changed it seems. Want proof? Check his television press conference today. On the Ch. 12 6PM news he was wearing his black Class A dress uniform with a gaudy RED TIE!! Check this evenings news broadcasts if you don’t believe me. Or: http://www.wisn.com/video/14587587/index.html
Apparently his Department rules pertaining to proper uniform attire don’t apply to him.

MilwHowie…from what I understand Sheriff Clarke is a fan of singer Taylor Swift. Last week Swift won the Country Music Association’s Horizon Award.

Today was designated “Taylor Swift Day†by either her fan club or some association. Supporters of the female singer wore red. That may explain the fancy necktie.
