Last April, popular area educator Jennifer Bukosky, her daughter Courtney Bella, and Bukosky’s unborn child, were killed in the blink of an eye in a horrific crash caused by a repeat-offender intoxicated driver. You’ll recall that the driver of the vehicle which killed Bukosky and her children was operating a vehicle after revocation, and under the influence of multiple prescription medications at the time.
The emotion that poured forth in the days following caused over 30,135 of you to sign BadgerBlogger’s online petition demanding a change in Wisconsin’s drunk driving laws.
The former doctor remains in a Waukesha County jail, awaiting the rotation of the wheels of justice in his case. Another motion hearing is scheduled in his six-count charge for later this month.
In addition, the suspect faces numerous civil claims, filed by two separate families and their insurance companies.
These are the very real costs of the choice to drive under the influence.
A Waukesha-area business is planning a 5K “Walk/Run for Life” in honor of Bukosky and her children, to be held next Saturday, September 20th, at Oconomowoc High School, and beginning at 8:30 AM.
Proceeds from sponsorships in the event will benefit educational programs on substance abuse at Oconomowoc High School as part of the Jennifer Bukosky and Courtney Bella Memorial Funds.
You can find an online registration form, and more information, by visiting http://www.parkersfitness.com While the deadline for early registration for the walk/run has already passed, you can contact the event organizers at 262-560-1001 to make a donation to this very worthwhile cause.
