Well, as I mentioned in last weeks line up, gas prices held steady through the Labor Day weekend. As of yesterday, gas was up 20 cents from the previous week at the local gas station. It was $3.79 the whole holiday weekend and as of yesterday it was $3.99. I still think prices held for the Harley Festival and personally think it is an outrage that we have a 20 cent increase in a week and no one seems to care. The news media hasn’t covered it at all.

Yeah, there’s a hurricane going on in the Gulf of Mexico.
It’s outrageous that we don’t have more refineries, but that’s a year-round problem, and there’s nothing anyone can do about weather, no matter what Al Gore says.

I certainly do enjoy birthday cake.

I would like to give credit where credit is deserved. Judge Kevin Martens acutally made everyone in law enforcement proud of the legal system. On Monday, Judge Martens sentenced Victor Veloz who shot 4 people, 2 of which where Milwaukee Officers to served 60 years and 9 months in prison before he is eligeble for parole. Good job Judge Martens.

Would anyone else like to see an English only law enacted in WI - heck, in the whole country, for that matter?
Does anyone else get tired of the inability to communicate because of language barriers?
I was looking up something on the DOJ web site the other day and now they offer PDF’s in Spanish and in Hmong. How many languages is this going to spiral into and how much are we paying in tax dollars for interpretors and the extra work etc. etc.
Thanks for the chance to rant. This one has really been getting on my last nerve. Even my cell phone asked me if I wanted it in Spanish or English before I could even activate the dang thing. ARG

Surprise Surprise. A stabbing on Ghetto Street.

I was just down on Water Street a few weekends ago during a non-festival weekend, and the thug scenery hadn’t changed. I marked it as the last time I would go to that area, because I knew it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Well here it is.

#5 Jeni: I know a suburban police officer that is of Armenian descent,he looks “hispanic” and when someone is arrested who is from Mexico, they act pissed that he doesn’t speak Spanish.
English should be the US official language and it should be every immigrant’s goal to learn it. It is the common thread that can unite us.
California prints its ballots in at least 6 different languages, Spanish,Chinese,Vietnamese,Korean,Tagalog and Japanese. Voting assumes you are a US citizen and thus can speak and read English.

Good grief (regarding CA) - that’s just plain nuts. How on earth can you communicate with your neighbors when you can’t understand each other.
The Tower of Babel…God confused languages so the people could no longer understand one another as punishment. Looks like we’re being punished all over again.

Judge Martens does deserve credit…All judges who render proper sentences like this should be lauded because it seems as though the only hear from the public when there is a protest.
@Jaeson-Stabbing? Whatever happened to good old fashioned scratching, hair-pulling, clothes-tearing cat fight? What is this world coming to?

I don’t know that I’m ready to fire all the court interpreters. And I’m not opposed to having things available in other languages if people ask for them. But I do object to having to choose to use english, and I certainly object to printing ballots in foreign languages. Enough is enough!
And Jeni, I still want to see your mayor’s green card…

Watch and wait. I’d bet there’ll be a shooting on Ghetto Street within a few months.
